I am originally from Ecuador and I love how lively the hispanic culture is yet every time I travel to a new place I find something from there that I want to take with me. I have learned throughout the years that there is no perfect place to live, but you can always make a place your home and make the most out of it. I went from living my whole life in a Spanish-speaking country in a metropolitan city, which is hot year round (and I am not a fan of the heat) to living in Springfield, MO. A place most people are shocked to learn I voluntarily went to.
I loved and still love Springfield, I had 4 wonderful years there where I started building my career and shaping into the person I hope to be. After that, I worked for 6 months in Albuquerque, NM as a rehab technician. Following this experience, I fulfilled a dream of mine and went volunteering in South American countries for about 5 months. This trip started in Ecuador so I could give back to a country that has given me so much.
Today, I am settled in NYC, discovering where exactly I want to take my career to. Since I am passionate about many, many things -which I hope to share with you- I am in the process of connecting these and teaching you how to do so. I do not believe that we must center our lives in only one thing that we deeply care about, therefore you will find a combination of things in this blog:
Nature
I am constantly amazed by nature and its wonders. I get lost in its beauty, day to day. And as an arts-driven person, I encounter art through so many different landscapes and textures. Hence, I constantly hike & camp where I get to experience my motto “disconnect to connect”.
Sustainbaility
Coming from my deep appreciation of nature, a duty of taking care of our planet has always been in my mind. But this has rooted more in myself throughout the past years. Today I am almost zero-waste, I eat only a vegetarian diet, which I have carried for almost 9 years now. I buy my produce local & organic and get my grains from bulk. There is absolutely no single-use plastic in my place, and the list goes on and on through the blog posts.
Fitness
I graduated from pre-medicine, specifically as a biologist with a concentration of my studies in exercise science. Having a healthy and active lifestyle is truly life-changing! It empowers your mind and body, strengthens you for life challenges and donates so much energy and good vibes into your life. As an effect I decided to pursue this further and I am now a certified exercise specialist. So if you are looking for tips and research-based info you are in the right place! And if you are looking for a personal trainer, you are too! -just head to the ‘contact’ section and shoot me an email, I will be more than happy to go through this journey with you.
Gastronomy
I find that food nourishes not only our bodies but our minds. When we do not eat well -and this can be any extreme, either too strict in how healthy the food should be or too careless with your choices- we disrupt the balance in our bodies. This imbalance also disrupts our physical health as well as our mental health. Find here many vegetarian, vegan and GF options to enjoy true flavors and true health.
Service
Growing up in a developing country, I was always exposed to true poverty in my own eyes. Growing up this way, also showed me legit economical gaps, which are so routinary that become normal. Consequently at a very young age I decided to volunteer as much as I could. I have been very lucky to have the support of my parents but also to have their guidance when they have thought I was exposing myself into too much risk. In addition to this, I also find myself blessed to have my own judgement and decisions to choose, and under this ability, making a decision to always help a hand in need.
I invite you to join me in this self-caring and world-caring journey. Indeed, if you happen to enjoy it, please share with others and with me! I completely love sharing stories and meeting new people with distinct points of view.
Much love,
Lorena
